Quilt Exhibition - Domaine des Girasols

As promised a little bit more about my "adventures in Provence" ;-)

One of the first things I did was buy a bundle of FQ quilt fabrics at a highly reduced price in this shop which wasn't far away from where we stayed. Hubby agreed to drive over there and we had a wonderfull afternoon in Bagnols-sur-Cèze.

Another quilt related thing was a visit we paid to the "Domaine des Girasols" which is located in Rasteau. We accidentally stumbled upon it when seeing a couple of road signs indicating "Exposition patchwork" when driving from point A to point B. So I had to see it and hubby had no other choice than heading over there - LOL!!!

I can tell you that it was an interesting visit and we received a warm welcome by the lady of the house who quilts for more than 30 years now and who organises this quilt show each year during the tourist season.

She told us that their wine was considered a table wine 30 years ago when she started together with her husband because everyone of the region brought their grapes to the "coopérative" and everything got mixed which didn't give a good end result.

Originally there were 7 domains and now 30 years later, there are already 21 domains. This is due to all the efforts the proprietors of all those domains have done to improve the quality of the wine (which now has an official label and is also considered as a good wine - like Vacqueyras or Gigondas or the more known Châteauneuf du Pâpe)

But hey ... we're here to see some pictures right? Okay then ... here's an impression of the quilts on display (basically divided into three categories = mola's, antique ones and recently made by a couple of ladies).

Afterwards we continued to the lovely village of Crested where we dined on top of the mountain/village.

Hope you liked the tour?

Next post will be about my purchases ;-)
